Oil ??????????????????

What grade of oil should I be giving my car? I have a 1999 bmw z3 m 3.2 I roadster.
My depth gauge shows full but my oil gauge seems to have drop from 230 to 210. Can this be normal?

I would go by the dipstick, consider yourself lucky to have one, the electronic oil level is problematic for quite a few owners judging by what gets posted on here. Thermal oil level sensors are a common fault code, had it on my 2.5, replaced it but got the code back soon after. I rely on checking with the dipstick now. As to oil grade seems owners use 10W/60 Synthetic judging what they post on threads for the Z3M cars.

Depends on which engine S52 or S54?
S54 = 10W / 60
S52 = 0 or 5W / 30
