had a phone call the other day off one of the previous owners of my car.. she was the one before the one i bought it off, I managed to find her off the previous owners log book.. anyway i contacted her last year, she was only about 5 miles from where i lived she had owned my car for about 4 years.. and gave me lots of information about the car.. anyway she foned a few days ago to say she had come across the previous m.o.t.s, and a radio... now bear in mind my car currently has a sony mp3 unit with usb stick (fitted by her)... when i bought her car there was an autochanger fitted in the rear storage compartment in the car cabin not it the boot.. this was a blaupunkt 10 disk unit... and had the cartridge missing.. anyway she gave me the original blaupunkt santa cruz mp36 head unit and the original autochanger cartridge... i have removed the autochanger but kept it, as thought the extra room in the cabin rear compartment is better used... what i was wondering was... would this blaupunkt setup been a bmw option when the car was new in 1998 or would this have been an upgrade to the original bmw radio at some stage ? any ideas...

I don't think that would have been a BMW option, the BMW setup had either a single CD or an autochanger in the boot.

well thats good to know... i have both units here sat on my desk i may put 12v on it to see if it all still works but cant see a lot of use in it really as i have like 300 albums on a 64gb memory stick and the extra storage in the rear cabin compartment now too... i use it to keep picnic blankets in...

A lot of people have replaced the OEM setup with something a bit newer. I wanted to stay original but finally gave in a bought a Kenlow digital radio with bluetooth and USB, much more practical. :)

Wow that's lovely of her to get in contact Awesome news

yeah i did pop over to see her last year.. and gave her my details and showed her the car and the work i had done to it.... she told me when she sold the car that the original beige tonneau was with the car.. i did go over the garage and ask about the tonneau, to be told that one of the salesmen sold it on ebay.... unknowingly by the car garage owner.. he was not happy .. some backhanders going on there...

i got names of a few of the owners but as yet can't trace them.. i think my car was originally from southampton area the Reg is KGC which i believe is from that area, also on my log book i think the car has spent some time overseas... and been given a registration that is not transferrable... by dvla... due to it being a short number... and therefore cant be transferred or sold...

yeah i think it was originally imported new into U.K. not through the official bmw channels and used here for a bit as there was a different plate on it originally, then maybe went overseas, registered there, then brought back and given a different registration. When i bought the car i was a bit concerened, but hpi has it all good, and its all recorded clear... I was told that at the time a lot of Z3's were parallel imported due to long waiting lists at bmw dealers for z3's so lots of people sourced them themselves and mine has a lot of extras that may not have been on a basic 1.9... eg aircon heated seats walnut trim, wlanut gear knob, beige steering wheel...
