Located in Sussex, my main interest these days is motorcycles but my wife not so much. Our runaround needed replacing (as nobody liked using it) so I suggested we look at a diesel mini - £30 annual tax and lots of mpg!

Picked out one with a nice tan leather interior (I know my wife) and we went to have a look - stepping out the car my wife said, I like that, walked right past the mini to a 2001 BMW Z3. Needless to say we will shortly be taking delivery of a Z3 1.9 (M43) in Titan Silver with just 34k miles. The interior brought back memories of the E30 325i's I had owned in the 1980's/90's - no 6 Cylinders, no M44 but performance seemed ok for our congested roads.

Usually I like to do a little research first but this was definitely a heart purchase and we are both looking forward to picking it up. No roll bars and no wind deflector, and the man at the BMW shop said the deflector is discontinued - the first challenge! That together with the search for a Titan Silver hard top (I love the look).

Will put up a picture once we have one.

What a great story Paul, and welcome on board.

You should be able to find all you need here, including the parts you can't source from BMW these days. @spurs fan in a coupe is a great source of second hand parts on here, although not sure if he has any factory roll bars available at the moment!

Enjoy :)

Hello, welcome to the forum. I do have a set of black OEM roll hoops, they are under first refusal to someone else, but if that falls through I'll let you know, I'm only in Woking, surrey so not too far from Sussex!

Enjoy!

Welcome on the forum from me too.
I have a Type 1 wind deflector with turret mounts (people always forget to remove them) that I have taken off my car that I might be willing to sell.

Welcome from Canada and also to the small group of us that love the look of the z3 with a HT. In fact I am seriously considering turning my second z3 into a permanent HT CAR so I can use it in winter or whenever it looks like it will rain the whole time I'm out for a drive and wouldn't be able to get the soft top down anyhow. Hardest part with buying as HT is not the top itself but the fittings so try to get everything as a package if you can!! JIM

Hello and welcome from Truro. I bought my car on a whim really. I drove past a garage forecourt and stopped to have a look. Three quarters of an hour later I had finished a quick test drive, and the deal was done.

Your wife and you will love it.

Hi and welcome from me in Hertfordshire, you've made a good choice in the Z so don't let our somewhat dismal summers put you off cos you can have as much fun with the hood up as when it's down. Happy Z' ing. Rha, Roy

Thanks for the welcome. Picked the Zed up this week and here are a couple of quick phone pics on the way home.

Will see if we can manage to keep to the "top down unless raining" rule - however with no heated seats I'm thinking about getting Ruth some BMW heated motorcycle garments for the winter so I can plug her in to keep warm!

Will take some better pictures when time allows - old phone had trouble with such a shiny car!
