I am thinking of getting a hardtop. Am I right in thinking that if I pick one up without a fitting kit I can secure it with two bolts at the front M8 X 18mm and strap the rear down to the seats. Do I need to remove anything to do this or will the hard top fit just rest in place with just straps and the two bolts.

Good, that's what I am planning of doing. I might not get one but if one becomes available in the right colour and near enough I will have a bid.

We did exactly that when a forum member collected my Wiesmann hardtop and we could not get the fitting kit to fit properly on the rear of his car.
He drove all the way home to the UK with no problems at all.

I haven’t tried it before. But I know even these cheapy thinner ratchet straps can be very effective. I used one to pull a shed back into square recently until I could cross brace it.
