I've always fancied fitting white dials ever since I bought my Zed and when I met Steve @Low Rider on a run and saw his it only increased my craving.

I started looking around the internet at different types and I came across the plasma gauges.

I "ummed and arred" a bit then made the decision to buy some.

I got them on Ebay, £50 ish delivered from www.visual-performance.co.uk.

I got the latest type where you can change the backlight colour and even control the brightness as it comes with it's own dimmer switch.

I'm not really one for "bling" but I do like this mod.

The backlight can be changed from blue to green at the flick of a switch and brightness can be adjusted with a dimmer knob.

Fitting is very easy once you have disconnected the battery and pulled the cluster from the dash. For this you'll need a T20 torx stubby screwdriver, or a T20 torx bit and socket.

Then you just have to dismantle the cluster, for this you'll need some precision torx screwdrivers, a T10 and a T6.

There are only 2 electrical connections to make, these are to connect the plasma transformer/inverter to the cluster illumination circuit.

Both connections are to the loom with the white plug. The red (power) wire from the inverter goes into the grey and red wire (pin2) and the black (earth) wire from the inverter goes into the brown and orange wire (pin24)

I was going to do the connections by splicing and soldering but changed my mind and did them the easy way with scotchlok connectors.

The only problem I encountered was when I did the road test and my speedo needle was catching on a raised section of the dial. This is sorted now, but I intend to put a few spots of superglue under the dial to keep it perfectly flat.

Massive thanks to my lady wife Jill, for identifying the correct wires I had to cut into. I'm colour blind so I couldn't have done this without her assistance.

The dial faces are quite flexible and you can fit them without removing the needles. They come in 2 pieces, the speedo/fuel gauge and tacho/water temp

You will notice that there are no "manufacturers" names on any of the dials.

Yeah better than having Lockwood printed across your dial like in the 90's in my ford escort days =))

The dials look very well. I too have difficulty differentiating between certain colours. Good work on the instrument cluster!

I like that a lot Garry, I may have a look see if they do them for my car. I knew someone would find me something to do just when I was thinking I was done.

I have set of Lockwood ones but can't stand the logo across so they've been in the garage for 5 years!

Can't help think they'd sell more if they took their logo off the dials.

Belong in the early 2000s in my opinion

But it's your car and whatever tickles your pickle :)
