Can anybody point me in the right direction with ordering a complete new kit of powerflex bushes for a 3.0....they all seem to be different measurements? I'm thinking if I got to replace one then I should just commit to replacement of all the perishable stuff on the underbelly....I know "Grumpy" just did his diff mount....I've got a slight knocking feeling when I'm going through the gears so I'm guessing this one is definitely shot.

Are powerflex generally thought of as the best out there?

I need to stop buying "tarty" bits and spend on some essentials

Yep just done my diff bush and it is a powerflex. From your description I'd say yours has gone. I understand if you change all the bushes to powerflex it does make the ride very hard.

I changed all the bushes front and back for OEM on my 2.8 for that reason except the front rear wishbone bushes which I put in powerflex, mainly as I was told it helped with wandering at motorway speeds and tram-lining neither of which was an issue after but whether that was down to the powerflex bushes or just the fact I changed everything I'm not sure.

Thanks chaps... I've read Mike Fishwick write up on firming everything up and the tramline issue... I must say I noticed the other day on a dual carriageway the uneven road surface was pulling me into the hard shoulder... Mr Fishwick says this is known as a "quirk" or characteristic of the Zed.... I'm not too bothered by it as I'm not a hard driver just thinking ahead for MOT time with perished bushes :bored:

Grumpy.... The guys who helped you with the dif mount... You said they were the "Midlands branch" of the Zed Shed? Is that official? I mean I could really do with an exploratory operation on the underside of my car before I spend all my dosh on making it pretty:whistle: I was thinking of asking the guys in Newbury but im in Northampton so I'm more Midlands really..

I'm still in the dark about the sizes I need for these replacements... The notes on the powerflex site only seems to mention which ones are specific for the M Roadster... No pointer what to order for a 3.0 litre.

Perished bushes have to give "excessive" amounts of movement to fail the M.O.T. and very few do. We, as enthusiasts are a little OTT with things like bushes etc. often changing serviceable components a little early.

Tony.

If you have a 3.0L Z3, I would suggest putting the powerflex bushings in the sub-frame mounts but leave the diff as OEM rubber. You need a little compliance on the diff mount to save the diff mount and cross member. Putting in a power flex diff and sub-frame bushings makes it all too firm and increases the risk of diff mount and cross member failure, especially if you have a lead foot.
