Currently replacing numerous rear brake components and having a tough time releasing brake pipe unions between the last metal pipe section to the outer flexi hose. I tried everything and now rounded off. These metal pipes have been replaced before and have been fabricated with sufficient slack so I’m hoping to cut, fit a new union and re-flare the existing pipe to connect to my new outer hose. I’m struggling to source the union however and as I can’t get it out, cannot measure it. Does anyone know the dimensions of this union? I’m of the understanding that the unions that connect with flexi hoses are longer than the standard metric ones. BMW can obtain the complete rear pipe section complete with unions but I’m concerned I’ll then have problems at the inner hoses which I hadn’t planned to disturb until I replace the next sections of metal brake lines, not a job for right now. Any info here would be greatly appreciated and sorry this post is a bit ‘war and peace’!

Removing brake pipe unions is best done by cutting the pipe flush with the union, and then using a 6 point socket. Trying to get these out with a spanner (even a proper pipe spanner) is a waste of time.

The fact that these rear sections have been replaced at some point led me to believe they would cooperate with my Snap On brake union spanner. It doesn’t usually let me down. I’m figuring maybe they weren’t replaced that recently after all!

I have a selection of those spanners Stephen, I only use them for tightening.
