A petrol head friend noticed the shut line on my Z4 coupe e 86 rear bumper near side was not as close as the offside so asked me if he could lift it by hand to see if the gap would close. It did close up which pointed to the fact that it had probably suffered a slight bump breaking the support bracket. Didn’t want dismantle without spare part in case we couldn’t get it back together. Spare obtained and should have been a straightforward swap but as usual with motors something else was also broken.

This is the broken bracket.

Three locating lugs broken plus the bracket Brocken in half. Should have been a straight swop but the rear light inner shroud has a locating lug which actually holds the bracket onto the the upper part of body wing.

All important lug broken off. So now with no way of getting new rear light shroud out of hrs or Sunday I decided to have a go at repairing it. First find a piece of decent strength plastic.

Thank you old number plate, super glue and tiny nut and bolt. Now even stronger than original.

schroud now bolted back in place with home made lug and fingers crossed bracket will go back giving us better shut line.

old one on right with brocken lugs

Now we have acceptable shut line on right side of rear bumper, feels reaffirm and can’t close shut line lifting it up from underneath. Took much longer than anticipated. (what’s new)

Nice one Roy. You can thank my neighbour for that Broken bracket. He reversed into the coupe when I first got it, was a very light touch luckily.

Now you can see why they use plastic car body parts Lee the bumper must have just sprung back out after the bracket gave way, Stewart noticed it last year and I've been putting off ever since.
My petrol head mate with the Porka (Stewart )has been having a go at me since last year when I bought the bracket so decided to shut him up and do it. He'll brobably find something else which I haven't noticed now.

He's always willing to give a hand and has just showed me how to paint with aero spray cans. This is what we have done in my first lesson Tues.

Two coats of undercoat, three top coats and three clear. Took ages and I'm not a good student when it comes to paint. Ugh!!!

He's so particular he says now I have to get my DA polisher out and do the whole car cos new paint always shows up the old. Years advising big car producers and working for the biggest names in paint industry has made him like this. Oh well I'll have to bite the bullet and ask him to show me the best way to smarten up the rest. Ugh!!!!

Something hidden out of shot below the number plate. Have to change the kidney grills first before I let you see it. Looks like I'm going backwards with the alterations @Lee.

Looking good. I had a friend spend a day on her doing paint correction he noticed the rear half had been parked under a tree at some point and the front offside wing was painted at some point. The rest of the paint was original.

Yeh Stuart has said the paint should come back fairly good, but he said only if I'm careful and mask up all the ridges so I don't go right through the clear coat. He's going to be watching over me. He said I'll have to spend some time marsking up to protect the edges. Will take some pics for you when it's ready for the polisher.( next couple of weeks)
Gonna send you a pm pic F.Y.Es only, you can see what I've been getting up to.

Roy.
