Recolouring / Restoring the roof (inside)

Hi all.

One of the planned jobs is to recolour the roof. Nothing drastic, just going from a faded black to a normal black to roll it back to what it used to look like.

One thing that is discoloured however is the inside of the roof. Normally I wouldn't care but this is very noticeable when the roof is folded down. In short, a bit of sun bleaching has taken it's toll.

The question therefore is whether anyone has tried recolouring the inside of the roof as well? Again, I'm just looking at black and my thoughts to keep it clean is to do it slowly and using a sponge brush to avoid it slopping everywhere. Will this work, or is the inside coated in anything that would prevent it?

You could fit a tonneau cover when the roof is down to hide the hood! Never even considered colouring the inside.

A friend of mine used Carbusonic spray to dye his headliner at a much neglected Mercedes.
The result was fantastic after five light applications and use of a hair dryer.
But the process made the sticky material that held the liner to the foam non sticky and it sagged after a week.
just a heads up.

Personal opinion of course but I always fell the roof liner in a Z3 is as pointless as the roof motor - never seemed to fit right in any of the facelift cars I've owned and much prefer the look of the pre-facelift cars without the liner.

Hope you find a solution @Sumilidon

Is your roof a lined or non lined interior

Pre-Facelift without a liner

I could but there's never any local and they're about £200. I only spent £1000 on the car so it seems somewhat of an expense for something I don't mind how it looks when down, other than the horrible faded colour.

Mine is the same, but more faded where it would be exposed to sunlight. Sounds like recolouring would not be a good idea in that case as it would be a full colour rather than a restore.
