I have struggled to find any information on how to remove the seat button and switch. The switch itself cannot be removed without removing the plastic trim around the outer side of the seat base. The seat will need to be removed for this. Once removed undo the few screws that hold the plastic in place, once loose unhook the two seat reclining cables they should just slide out there housings. Once you have the assembly off the seat it should look like this: (Two Small clips on each side to release the switch)

Once removed you will need to slide the metal plate across with the use of a small flat blade:

The plate should lift out showing the back of the switch:

The next step will need a steady hand, its this white plastic component that breaks. It's attached to the black switch with one clip either side, using a small flat blade to lift them:

Wiggle the black button while gently prizing the clips open. Once off you should be left with the following components:

Hi guys, just need a bit of help in trying to remove the passennger seat switch. I have removed the seat and I'm trying to remove the plastic trim. I have removed the screws (3 of them) and the plastic trim is lose. Based on the instructions above, "unhook the two seat reclining cables they should just slide out there housings." That's the step I am stuck; how does that slide off?

You make it sound so easy @Lee,I had to replace one on the passenger side not long after getting our zed.
I remember it being tricky to get off and even trickier getting it back on,Sara helped me get the cables back on,bless her........after I calmed down with the blastfeming and throwing spanners around the garage .

Ok you have it all in bits as I did yesterday now how do you make a repair as I tried. I phoned BMW for price on new switch, there are 4 in the country he told me then he told me the price some thing over a hundred quid and did I want him to order one in. I did manage to be polite after picking myself up of the floor and say no thank you lol. ( I was thinking some thing else I nearly said )

Thank you so very much. People cleaning my car broke the button off, breaking the little white piece of plastic attached to the switch. Had to buy a whole new (used actually) switch, just to cannibalize the white piece to reattach the button. I guess the good news is I don't have to change the cabling and deal with the connectors and I can perhaps try to resell the rest of the switch for someone who has failing electronics there.

couldn't have done it without this!
