Guys after my long drive to Scotland I have decided that cruise control is a must on the 2.8, I know its not quite as simple as facelift but after a chat with Jim it appears quite straight forward,
Just checking on here to see exactly what I need,
Interface
switch (stalk)
Actuator
Bowden cable,
I can't find it on real OEM so need part numbers

The cruise control is found under the "Distance Systems" icon in RealOEM

I've fitted the list of parts below which I got from a contributor from Z3 M Coupe a few years back. I haven't got it fully working as yet, a mate is going to check it out for me to see it code reader shows any faults.

Z3 MC Cruise control – Parts required (also for older engined Z3 models 1996-1999

1. Cruise control actuator PN 65718369027 - fit from E39, E38 NOT FIT from E36!!!:

2. Cruise control switch PN 61318360926 - fit from E36, E31 i Z3 - the best with 6 pin terminal

3. Control unit f cruise control PN 65711387625 - fit from E31, E32, E34, E36 i Z3 - silver metal, NOT black plastic (bmwmini – new price £346, FAB Motors –£40)

4. Clutch switch PN 61318360421 - OEM it is very expensive, I got one off eBay.

5. Bowden cable for cruise control PN 65712228746 (bmwmini)

6. Bearing accelerator Bowden cable PN13541747519 (bmwmini)

I have a detailed write up with photos which I got from the origin post on the forum if it helps.

Its not as bad as it looks on the diagram. Many of the parts shown on the diagram have no part number and are not needed.

I would look for a donor car in the wreakers and get all the parts at once. Compare the parts list with the E36 and see whats common. A quick look shows that the main items are common with the E36 platform.

I fitted to my M earlier in the year and sourced all the bits from eBay other than the bowden cable (main agent). It took a couple of hours to fit including cutting out for the control stalk.
