I have just recently purchased a Z4 3.0si Coupe Auto, 1 Lady owner from new with 30,000 miles and a full and obscene comprehensive Sytner BMW service history.

Is it possible to fit cruise control ?

If anyone knows can you advise what is needed and is it much of a job, or is it plug and play?

many thanks in advance.

Depends on the year how easy it is.

BMW didn’t fit the cruise harness on the Si modes so as well as the stalk you’ll need to retrofit that. It’s not straight plug in and requires splicing in. I had exactly the same question some years back after buying the stalk for my 3.0Si.

Hello Gaz,

Many thanks for your response, I'm going to leave that one then. I don't do complicated when not absolutely necessary

It’s not beyond the wit of man to do, loom kits are available and you just need someone to install it. I guess it will probably come down to how much you plan to actually drive the car, against the cost of someone installing it for you.

I would definitely cost it out, got it done on my E89 and well worth it.

Bit easier on the e89 its just add the stalk and code. Did you get the same fella as me to do it Tony?

Hello Gaz,
thank you for your comments, the cost within reason is not the issue, happy to pay someone to do the work, I just need to locate the parts and the fitter. I like cruise,

Crusie control update for my E86.

I have purchased the retrofit kit from my local dealer £127 all in, there's a great youtube video of a guy in Sweden fitting the cruise to a RHD E85, it took him approx 1.5hrs to fit the retro kit, there's no re-programming. worked straight away.

I'm going to give it a go myself

At last I got round to fitting the retrofit cruise control I purchased from my local dealer last year.
Earlier models of Z4, I think pre 2006, it is as simple as fitting a new cruise control stalk plugging it in and off you go, however 2006> you have to purchase a wiring kit which you have to splice into the loom shock horror I thought.
I was concerned my skill level was a bit short and I hate anything to do with automotive electrics.
But then I said to myself let’s give it a go, the flitting from start to finish took me 2 hrs, to my surprise it actually works as well, The only problem I encountered was connecting the additional brown and black wiring into the loom, there’s 2 wires which one do I use, YouTube to the rescue, it splices into the brown and black wire in connection ‘31’, I’m very pleased with the end result as I like cruise control, plus it’s an extra gimmick. Total cost £127 Genuine BMW parts!

This is the fitment guide for the Cruise control for an E85 or E86, sorry it's a bit blurred.

The column switch part number is 61 31 6 940 989
The wiring loom kit is 61 12 0 411 248

I hope this helps anyone wanting to retrofit Cruise control.

There is an excellent video telling you how to fit the cruise control, it really is quite easy.................
