Hi all...

So, as the thread mentions, I got in the zed the other day and all of a sudden the indicator for turning right isn’t working...

The stalk goes up fine but none of the right hand lights flash and neither does the green indicator on the dash. The left hand one still works fine...

My initial thoughts are indicator relay? But can someone advise if there is anything else before I start ordering a new one? Eg flasher unit (is there one, where is it?)

I don’t think the indicators are on separate fuses for left and right are they?

Thanks in advance, Bertiejaffa

On a different car I had a similar issue - it was the plug on then column that connects with stalk bit that was loose (it was after replacing the steering wheel so got dislodged l)

The fix is to take the bulbs out the left hand indicator. It'll be like every other BMW then ;)

Unusual for a fuse like this to go. The fuse is there to protect the rest of the system. Might be some other problem at the root of it.

Do the Hazard lights work on both sides? If yes then that rules out the wiring and possibly the switch. If not then I would be looking at the flasher can.

Tony.

On all Z3 builds (to the best of my understanding)...

There's only 1 relay and it's known as the 'Hazard Flasher' relay. The turn indicators (as BMW call them) are switched through this relay.

There are 2 fuses (23 & 34) that form part of the circuit but they are to give a permanent live for hazard mode and a switched live for turn. They are not left/right related.

The best steer has already been given by @t-tony . If the hazards work on that side it's most likely to be the column switch/connector as it's the only component I can see that's in the line of fire and fits the logic. I guess there's an outside chance the relay is faulty and can turn both sides on but not the right side individually. But I don't know whether that's even possible with the electrical logic of the relay.
