Well I have just got back from a 1915 mile road trip in the Mini Cooper S.

Things I liked :-

French Roads - less traffic and great road surfaces compared to ours.
Sea food was amazing - as we stayed just short of Mont St. Michel
Mini returned 37.4 MPG for the overall trip.

Things I didn't like :_

The French using bumpers for parking assistance, Mini came back with a slight scratch it didn't go with. All I know is it was a grey car from the paint left on my rear bumper.
Belgium drivers proved again they are the worst in Europe.

Below a picture of the Cooper with Mont St. Michel as a back drop at night.

Sounds and looks like you had a good trip.
I have not been in France for a while now but the road from the Belgium border to Calais used to be awful and there are some bad roads in Belgium too.
The motorway at the Dutch-Belgium border always makes me laugh.
It is a sort of 'no mans land'

How did you find it comfort wise? I was amazed how comfy my Cooper was on long journeys, and yours must have soaked those miles up nicely.
Comfort wise it was great even with modified suspension, was even ok with it fully loaded with the rear seats down so I could get all the kit in.
