it wouldn't have been in a display, it would have been at high altitude to allow for recovery or bail out if it went wrong.

lots of stuff you wouldn't dream of gets aerobated during testing, without actually stressing the airframe

Well, talking of Lancasters, we got an eyeful of the BBMF over Lincoln today. The Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, led by ( I think) a Tornado with a Typhoon bringing up the rear, at a fair old tilt ( to keep it in the air at slow speed?). Later on the three old planes were headed back over the city towards Conningsby. All for free too.lol.
