Roof Shannigans

Hi, bizarre experience ..

Had the car 4 months now and roof has been going up and down no issues at all ...... Until....

Roof went down 3/4s and stopped. So checked this forum and thought could be the microswitch, undid the 2 hex bolts, guess what, no microswitch, and just 2 loose wires. Also read that if these 2 wires are twinned together roof should operate, did that and all seemed good. Roof opened and closed.
Got a new microswitch.
Tried the roof again before installing microswitch (with the 2 wires twinned together still) roof opened but when trying to close it gets about a foot into the process then stops. So in the boot I twist the T switch and complete manually.
Attached the microswitch and roof opened complete but unable to close, gets to about a foot in the process then stops,

Kinda stuck now...

Any clues, what may have I missed

Check the boot lid loo
loom for any frayed wires in the bunch that goes from the body into the boot lid. Have you noticed that your brake lights come on all the time? As the brake switch is part of the system and mine does this and traced the fault to this. Also check that your handbrake light comes on as well as the switch might be gummed up.

So, all brake lights work and the hand brake light works.
Unable to get the roof switch out of the console, dont wanna force it, assume its just a pop out. (got the middle section out but that just shows the lights)
I did check the loom and it is bound with electrical tape - i have not opened it yet in case all falls apart (having seen some online pics).
I will get wire and connectors first before undoing the tape.

Hoping it is the loom otherwise may have to take it to the local indy.

I see ZShed open this sat (Lydney) but i am away this weekend.

Forgot to update here.
Roof sorted, was the cable from the microswitch area running to the boot, this had worn just behind the passengers seat,
New wire run from the newly installed microswitch to the rear. All working now.

I installed a new boot lid wire kit so thats done now as well.
