This is the first build for the Zedshed team in its new home. With 60+ zeds built on axel stands this will be a treat for us using a lift.
Here is @LuvmyZ3.xxx Turkish Green 2.8 Z3. Tracey has nearly owned her from new. Starting at 2 years old and 3000 miles on the clock back in 1999 then 23 years later with 67,000 miles on the clock Tracy wants her restored to her former glory.
We had her collected from way up North on Friday and transported down to us.
At 25 years old in August the MOT process has finally caught up with Rosie. To be fair to the MOT guys they have been vary fair so far. So first thing to do was get her up on the ramp.
The colour code for those interested.
Next up is a selection of shots showing why it’s time to give her a front to back overhaul.
Full body shot
The main reason for the MOT fail. Rear trailing arms, Small holes we can repair with our Zinc process but multiple large holes and heavy corrosion on the upper arms make these arms way past their best.
Photos up front looking up.
An original BMW sticker on the shock
Slight gearbox weep, nothing a 50p seal can’t sort.
some more shots at the rear showing lots of heavy corrosion, luckily only on the bolted on items.
Rear exhaust section looking past it, always the first place they start blowing.
Standard condition for tank straps. Luckily we have an expert for these
Diff bush delaminating from the ring. Very common sight.
shot from the side just showing again the corrosion.
We also noticed a completely split CV boot. This we really don’t see much. Luckily BMW do repair kits so this is no big problem for us.
This may all look scary, nothing we haven’t seen before and nothing we cannot sort. The fun part begun shortly after doughnuts & Coffee. Because of some stubborn items this took us just over and hour to remove.
First item to remove was the exhaust. Nice clean headers on the engine. Gave us no issues. We also removed the propshaft at this stage
Gives us better view of everything.
It’s not a Z3 if you don’t cut bits off
Roll bar removed along with springs n brake lines
Support plate removed
Other plate removed, Now ready to drop
Down she comes.
First time this subframe has been removed since it was installed in 1997 looking all dusty with a side of light surface rust
We then removed the tank straps, old shocks and gave the underside a clean. Not bad at all for 25 years old
While we were on a roll we started stripping the front end out.
Dam reached photo limit.
