Hi all, new to the forum so hopefully in right section!
Had my 2012 z4 20i (auto) for a few weeks now and noticed a bit of a judder on start ups.
I am aware of the tapping noise and that does go away once warmed up but car feels like the revs are going up and down and nearly cut out (doesn’t show this and hasn’t cut out). Car drives and pulls perfect when up to temp but just wondered if this is something I should get checked whilst still under Waranty? Thanks in advance, Dan 👍🏽

Wouldn’t know about the tapping noise but you really need a code reader to see what’s going on. My wife’s been using my lad’s Z4 whilst I work on her Z3, was doing the same thing last week plugged in the code reader and straight away the no 5 cylinder was running rough, replaced the coil and alls well again, without the diagnosis tool it’s just guesswork.

Thanks for the reply Peter, I’ve plugged in my one reader and nothing shows! Reckon I’ll take up to local garage and get them to do a read hey! Does seem like coil pack would be culprit tho!! 👍🏽

The coil wasn’t throwing any codes but its had previous coils replaced, the smooth value screen on the reader confirmed where the problem was, luckily we had a new spare in the boot ! Need to get a spare replacement for the next time…..

Hi Tony, no lights on at all and as I say car runs fine it’s just the judder and a bit lumpy at first idle! And it’s Barnsley 👍🏽

Oh, OK.If you were nearer to me I was going to suggest I could put my code reader on it for you.

Tony.

I have had this a few times on my e91 3.0.
Coil pack was a culprit twice which i diagnosed by reading codes and swapping coils effectively moving the misfire to another cylinder and replacing it and unfortunatly and more expensively an injector leaking a bit of fuel in a cylinder when off was another occasion. This required more specialist help.

Hi all, just to update! Had a code reader on it and no issues found! However decided just to get it serviced with new oil, sparks etc (even though not much miles done since last service before I bought it) so far seems to have sorted the shaking at idle and runs a lot smoother! Had the lifters checked as still seems a little tappy on start up but again all seems ok. Thanks again for the help with this and look forward to seeing you all Sunday 😊👍🏽
