I have today used 4 scotch locks to connect my angel eyes to the sidelights. My question is why are so many different car sites saying bad things about them, one site showed a scotch lock fitted and the next photo was the outcome, a burned out car.

Anyone know anything about them as Jonttt has them on his thread about his fitting of the projector lights. ;)

I think the problem with scotch locks is when they are not fitted properly and they can cause a short circuit.

So long as they are fitted properly they are fine. They have been around for a least 20 years. Thats why I used them as they are ideal for connecting the angel eyes into the sidelights ie patching into an existing circuit.

I think there are various styles readily available now.

I am ultra paranoid when I use then that they are connected properly though.

Scotch Locks are things of the divil...

They can so easy give a bad connection, also leaves an open ends for water to penetrate into

best thing is to solder joint and heat shrink it, will take a long to do as putting scotch locks on.

I agree solder and shrink wrap is the best option but for quick fixes in hard to reach places (to get a soldering iron into) scotch locks have their place. I always wrap them in electrical tape as well.

Scotch Locks Nasty little things, the problem with them is they allow the wires to corrode which will eventually lead to a loss of connection or even worse a short. My advice dont use them for long term connections. Better to use these (see link) for repairs and Solder & Shrink tube for mods:

Thanks guys, i thought there would be different views on them, as i have seen on other froums, they are not very well supported.

I have put them on with care and wrapped them in quality electrical black tape and look ok. I will keep an eye on them.

Thanks Jontt for the thread on fitting them, made the job easier. :ymapplause:
