Had another day on the zed today, nothing exciting as its all pretty boring stuff at the minute, cleaned, etch primed and under sealed the os chassis, inside the os front wing and inside of os sill, also flatted both bumpers with 500 so they are ready to paint, I also did some work on the os of the bonnet as its had a pretty poor repair in the past, also welded a patch on the end of the sill as the return wasn't to clever, I am going in tomorrow to get the sill and wing in primer and thats the first stage almost done,

It might be boring to you Sean as it's what you do every day i guess, but to me and most others on here it's interesting.
The sills on mine are on my to do list along with the bonnet and wheels.
It's good to see you're saving this zed mate, good on ya .

Forgot to add that I am now considering pearl white as the final colour, nothing too extravagant, just nice and subtle with maybe a satin finish.

Yes Grumpy my wife and I really fancy the meet in the lakes,

Thanks Steve, I am really enjoying it as its my car, be it a customers car and I would be bored to tears, I fabricated 2 new jacking points for one a few weeks ago, I'll dig the pics out,

I quite like the pearl in the pics

Funnily enough Steve when we started looking for a Zed the first one I rang was white. It had sold, not being a stock colour, apart from the limited edition cars your only going to see one thats had a colour change or a wrap like @Lee.
I think they look great in white and in pearl or metallic would really look the biz. Be interesting to follow this.
@Sean d, when you post a pic click the full image tab, makes it much easier for me to see on my phone. Tar!

This Z failed MOT on the jacking points, as you can see, one has completely gone, the real sad part is that the car had one owner from new and only 26000 miles on it, it was mint to look at in hellrot but it had spent its life in a garage so was put away wet on multiple occasions, the chassis is a very heavy gauge but had rotted right though and a plate had to be made for the inside as well, take a look at the pis

That's better I can see them! That's bad, and hellrot red is a stunning colour on the Zed's.

It think BMBabe posted a picture of a Z4 she'd spotted a couple of weeks ago, not sure which blue it was but I did like that one. Some kind soul might know where it is.;)

If I go with the pearl it would mean a major change of plan, I was planning to paint the car in groups of panels, first in the booth was going to be bumpers, sills and front wings, followed by the back end, then the bonnet and doors and finally the car to have the insteps done, however if I use pearl it will all have to be done at the same time, due to the effect of building up the layers of pearl on a white base coat.

Decisions, decisions.
Must be great having those skills and access to the right equipment.
My wife's uncle sprayed planes for BAE - he resprayed our first ever car for us. Made it look so easy!

I would LOVE to have the skills. Always fancied doing it for a living but it never happened.

It's a pleasure to watch someone painting a car. I also like watching shot blasting, curiously, it's like watching the paint being sprayed off!

Painting these days is harder then it has been for years due to having to use water base products, however I will be using acrylic for the zed
