I had reports that the search engine was not bringing back results on certain words. phpBB has a setting on the search option which excludes words which it deems too common. I've made a change to that setting and reindexed the search database so you should find you will now get more search results each time.
If you get too many results and you still cant find what you are looking for then use the "search these results" option. This allows you to perform an additional search on the initial result.
I may have to tweak this setting over time to get the optimal value, but as usual any questions just let me know.
