If you are into diagnostic scanners and software you will find there are reset functions on some like INPA, BMW Scanner 1.4 laptop based diagnostics and Creator handheld scanners. You can also buy a special reset tool that plugs into the round diagnostic socket in the engine bay that will reset oil and Inspection warning lights, its just a bit of electronics that mimics what Mikes wire on the pins would do. All available on ebay. Example here shows it comes with a 16pin obd2 plug so you may need a 20pin to 16pin cable changer to go with it.
The one I have came from China and only has two reset buttons like this pre owned one on ebay, works on my 1999 1.9 via the round socket. I see the 16pin ones are from Australia and quite expensive compared to the Chinese ones listed.

thanks, I am not in need to reset service indicator oil change, etc. There is a yellow light that says "Service Engine Soon" which according to the Owner's manual is an emissions problem.
