Soft Top Learning Curve Snafu

More head shaking for you:

Whilst applying previously discussed tonneau cover, I casually pushed down the right angled hood clips that otherwise secure under the front windscreen. Well, come the end of playtime tonight, I discovered they didn't pop back out! Had anyone else done this and, if so, whats the remedy??? Pleaseeeeee

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you Rob but do you mean the 2 handles (1 each side) that locks the hood in place??

If so just pull them back out - I always close mine again once I have pushed the hood open a little, before opening fully but I've noticed a lot of cars with them still open with the hood down, just looks neater for me and I think you have to close them to put the tonneau on.

Ok, you mean the right angled hooks? Whatever am i doing wrong?! They wouldn't budge for me. Whats the knack? Not that I'm desparate !!

Have you closed the roof fully so the hooks are resting on the frame?? If so then just pull it back a couple of inches until it rests, then open the handles, sometimes they can be a bit stiff - especially if they've not been used.

Can you take a picture to make sure we're on the same wavelength here??

Don't worry we have all been there at some time.

Roof closed but handle fully unlocked and lock dis-engaged underneath

Push the roof at the front until it stops and rests by itself

At this point I always close the locks back before I power the hood fully open

If you've let your roof come down fully then the lock will be sitting on the top of the windscreen

Lift it back as in point 2 above until it is sat by itself in the 1st position

Fully open the handles again

Use the centre hand hold to pull the roof down whilst you fully close the handles 1 by one

Depending on how taut your roof is depends on how much pressure you need to close the handles. This is the handle partly closed with the tooth of the lock engaged

Just apply more pressure to fully close the handle

I hope we're talking about the same thing here as my other half is wondering what I'm doing going in the garage at this time of night with the camera

I think some introductory Wiki articles are a good idea. Often the seemingly obvious stuff is ignored.

I remember taking my Z3 for a test drive before I bought it, and spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to drop the roof. :ymblushing:

Things like lowering the spare wheel are not blindingly obvious either.

took me a while to work out reverse, i was pushing the stick in, pulling the knob, looking for buttons and allsorts. Luckily my previous car had a stiff first gear and i accidentaly slipped into reverse, Did it a fair few times in the first week of ownership. Aswell as catching my ''clown feet'' on the dead pedal and missing gears.

Snoops! Problem Solved! I think I need to buy the owner manual and stop worrying that I shall break it every 5 minutes! Big thankyou for the pics. It made logical sense instantly!
