Hi all,

So, after getting on top of my Zed and sorting coolant and oil leak issues (all good...), the car has a list of things I want to do (machine polish, engine mod's, wheels, springs, MAYBE exhaust etc etc...), which I can justify as I got it Cheap Cheep (like the budgie).

It came with a space saver, in the boot in a bag (it also came with an AA compressor, the sat nav disc and 6 "Rave" discs in the auto changer...which sound great with the awesome stereo lol), however...there is no jack.

I reckon the previous owner may have had run flats on it, with bigger wheels maybe? There is no "proper" home for the space saver and like I said, no jack....whats the best thing to do? Is there proper place for the Space Saver (the bin, isn't an option!!). If i use the car on a work day, I CANNOT, not make it to work and so want to keep the spare and will need a jack too. What do you guys do? I won't put it on run flat 19's....roads are too crap and the ride is too hard (my M on 19's was shocking....but my other M on 18's was a great improvement....mostly down to run flats and the other, not!

Thanks for your thoughts....if i made any sense?!

Hang on.....I think you're talking Z3?! Z4, to my knowledge has zero space for a spare. Annoying!!! So, looks like I will need to always carry the space saver (certainly for longer, critical journeys)?!

To be honest even on non run flat tyres you will be ok with a can of Tyreweld and a cig. lighter socket powered compressor. That's all I carry.
You don't need to carry a jack.

Tony.

ps. If you get told that using Tyreweld or the like renders a tyre useless afterwards, disagree and get it cleaned and plugged as normal.
Eh @hard top ?

The Tyreweld should actually re-inflate the tyre to some extent as well. But just as well to carry a compressor.

As long as the hole isn't in the sidewall it does a great job. And to be fair sidewall holes are beyond proper repair anyway.

If you see a screw or similar in the tyre the advice is normally to push it further in rather than remove it.

Personally I liked the system on my Alhambra. That used Contiseals. They have the gunge pre-built into the tyre ready for a puncture. But I don't think they come in Z3 size.

You can also get the gunge retro-fitted into any other tyre. Either by a specialist or DIY.

Ooops sorry, yes my comments are about the Z3.
You will just have to buy a Z3 for those longer journeys so you won't need to carry a spare wheel in the boot of your Z4.

The need for a 12v compressor comes down to the size tyre mainly, but also the size of the tin of Tyreweld. Check tyre size comparability on tin.

The 2 times I've used Tyreweld it actually went from being almost flat to over-inflated. So maybe 10 psi to 40-45 psi. Well that's my recollection. But I have no idea how it managed it from a small can like that. It was the correct larger size for the tyre though. Tony is right to highlight that as there are 2 possibly 3 sizes of Tyreweld.
