Well i carry two tins of tyre weld,my tyres are to wide for the boot anyway so the puntured one would have to come in the car and that and the wife would not fit.so i hope that day i do get a flat the tyre weld does it,the Ms dont have a spare just the gunk and inflator,so thats what i do.if all fails ill call the AA.

Mick,

This is the reality of using the space saver, luckily I was solo at the time. It was a rear, and driving on the space saver was a scary experience. Driven on them before, but the Z3 was not pleasant.

The problem I have with that is, thats its always wet and muddy when I get a flat. So putting the spacesaver on and driving with the wheel on the passenger seat is a real mess on my lovely cream seats. Tyre weld must be the way to go.

Totally with you Mike about the tyre gunk. I now carry a BMW tyre inflation kit which was expensive at £90, but has a decent compressor in it, plus some other useful bits.

In the case above I had a rapid and complete deflation of the tyre mid corner. Went a bit messy until the car stopped nose in a hedge. It pulled the bead between the rim and tyre apart so had no choice but to fit it.

Yes, I bought an as new space saver spare wheel and unused tyre on ebay for around £70. Tyre weld will not repair all punctures, where the tyre wall is ripped or the seal is broken. I for one would not be without a space saver tyre. The punctured tyre and wheel could go in the boot with the boot lid lashed down. Many tyre companies will not repair a tyre which has had tyreweld used anyway. Also check on Amazon.

Best of luck,

Bonzo

I NOTICED THAT NOT MANY THREADS HAVE BEEN POSTED LATELY SO I WAS LOOKING OVER THE ONES FROM THE PAST AND CAME ACROSS YOURS. LAST MONTH I BOUGHT A Z3 BUT HAVEN'T PUT IT ON THE ROAD SO, NOT USING THE CAR YET, I DON'T HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH IT YET. HOWEVER, I SEE THAT YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW HOW OLD YOUR SPARE TIRE WAS. I DO KNOW THAT IN THE U.S., TIRES, MOST OF THEM, HAVE ON THE SIDEWALL, A SMALL OVAL WITH 4 DIGITS OR NUMBERS INSIDE. THE FIRST 2 NUMBERS CORRESPOND TO THE WEEK OF THE YEAR AND THE LAST 2 NUMBERS CORRESPOND TO THE LAST 2 NUMBERS OF THE YEAR THAT THE TIRE WAS MANUFACTURED.. SO, FOR EXAMPLE, IF 4611 WAS IN THE OVAL, THIS TIRE WOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED DURING THE 46TH WEEK OF 2011. AGAIN, I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE CASE IN THE UK. FRANKIE, EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY. I JUST READ AGAIN WHAT YOU SAID AND REALIZED YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT NO DATE ON THE SPACE SAVER TIRE. STUPID ME. YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. IF I FIND OUT THE REAL ANSWER YOU NEED FOR THE AGE OF THE TIRE, I'LL GET BACK TO YOU. FRANKIE.
