Thanks for posting that, very interesting read. A boyhood hero of mine was Douglas Bader, imagine fighting in that aircraft with 1930s technology artificial legs.:)

A very brave and determined man, but he didn't fly Spitfires;).

The most honorable thing that he did was to defend his inexperienced wingman to the end, even though he was (most probably) shot down by him.

Like Churchill, Paddy Maine and others, he was the type of person we needed at the time.

Bader flew Hurricanes in the battle of Britain but in 1941 he was flying Spitfires from Tangmere and Good wood. This was when he led the Big wing.
