Funny thing.

I realised I was over-revving on every gear change (like a newbie) and carefully lifted more than usual to compensate, moved the foot well carpet, etc, but same thing happened.

Was it in my mind?

Just when I convinced myself that I wasn't going barmy I decided to Google and found out about sticky accelerator.

I have some carb cleaner ready to spray but is there a pictorial showing what I need to disconnect and spray/clean? I'm a visual person.

Hi,

It is the cable that either needs relubricating or replacing, probably easier to replace to be honest as it won't last that long before you will have to relube it again if you don't replace. It is quite a common trait for the cable to drag resulting in a damped throttle response and if you replace the cable it will feel like you are driving a totally different car as it will appear that the engine is alot more responsive.

Replacing is not difficult just fiddly as you need to get our head under the dash remove a little kick panel just above the pedels and you should be able to see that the cable just hooks over the throttle pedal lever then you will be able to remove from the bulkhead and unthread it from the cable channel going across the back of the engine bay.

Got you - similar to my old MX-5 - I love direct link pedals, actually. My E90 has a fly-by-wire pedal and it's annoying to say the least.

Anyways, the additional advice I've read is cleaning the throttle itself by removing a few thingies, spraying carb cleaner and wiping with a rag.

Does anyone have links to pics of this?
