ok i recently brought this http://www.amazon.co.uk/CABRIO-192hp-1995-2000-Exhaust-Silencer/dp/B00S9GRN66 though i got mine from ebay at £34 bargain of all time fits like a glove. however it is alot louder and deeper sounding than the oem one so now i need more bass in the car to drown it out. currently all is oem appart from the head unit (two footwell speakers, door tweeters and two small speakers behind seats, my thoughts are small amp in top oddments box with a 5.25 inch bass driver inserted where the lower drop down oddments draw is now. questions are - has anyone else done this, is it better to install the top oddments tray sub, if so which is best for sound ie single 6.5 or 2 - 5.25. thinking it would be cheaper to just install the 5.25 driver into the lower draw.

The best solution is to fit a Kicker 6.5" CompVT sub in the cubby box in the oem position, you will need the sub cubby box to do this though, you would then put the amp in the boot (trunk). You can buy the enclosure for the sub here:

I would recommend fitting new footwell and rear speakers as well, I would leave the oem wiring in place and run all new speaker cables, my set up is here:

do you think the heated rear window feed would be man enough to run an amp from?

No, the amp will draw quite a bit of current so needs to come straight from the battery. I would put the amp in the boot anyway, there are plenty of holes to run the speaker and component cables through from the cabin to the boot, top tip though is to keep the earth to the amp as short as possible.
