Suspension & Central Locking: Pre-Facelift

Hi all.

With the car now away for the colder months, it's time to start working on the jobs I didn't get round to last year and I am looking for some advice please.

The big job is the suspension bushings, but as it's on the original set of everything (since 1997) my plan is to replace the bushings, the dampers and the springs with the aim of also lowering the car somewhat (as the back is very high). I'm not wanting coilovers and if honest, not really looking for premium either as it's only a 1.9, drives on normal roads and barely gets driven. Also the car only cost £1k. As such, I am thinking of just the Ridex stuff for dampers and bushings, but want to know which type of dampers to get and also if anyone has any suggestions on which springs to get as I see many but not sure which would be considered the right height. Not after anything silly low, just more the typical which I believe is 3cm?

The second question is the central locking. The car has central locking, and I am presuming it has remote central locking but I never got a separate remote fob (my keys have a light only). Has anyone had any success with the pre-facelift ones in using perhaps an aftermarket fob? If so, any suggestions which one and how to set up?

The central locking is not a deal breaker and I'm certainly not getting anything aftermarket added to replace it, but was hoping a replacement fob could work.

Just had a Quick Look on eBay and the cheapest remote I can see is £60 and it’s very tatty, sellers have gotten greedy. May be others.

You can get complete eBay specials coil overs for just under £300 but the ride might be a bit crappy. Oem sports spring would be the best for the ride height you want but new ones would be pricey if you can still get them. What’s your budget? These ebachs https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36296265...6FB3kPHTJG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY on some standard Sachs or Monroe shocks. If you keep an eye out you can find bargains like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/26525276...6FB3kPHTJG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY but these are for a 3.0 a bit firmer damping I presume

I used a generic central locking system from Ali express. Only £14 ISH and works fine. Was quite easy to fit
