Hi,
I am about to changed the discs and pads on my Z3 1.9 which are currently solid (and warped). I believe it is possible to replace them with vented ones but the is conflicting info around on the web. Has anyone done this and aside from different calipers will I need anything else as in hubs, carriers and master cylinder?

cheers in advance for any top tips

The cars have the front suspension from an E36 so you will also need as you say the callipers and carriers from an E36 that had vented. The discs from the 3.0 are 300mm diameter and 1.9 are 286mm diameter.
Some of the E36 had 286mm diam discs.
Obviously new pads as well.

You can use brake calipers and carriers from the 2.2, 2.8 or the 3.0, I popped a set of 2.8 calipers and carriers on my 1.9, worked a treat. No need to worry about the master cylinder as all the calipers on the Zeds (apart from the ///M) use the same piston size.

As Brian has already stated there is a difference in disc size on the 3.0, IIRC the 2.8 has 286mmx22mm vented discs.

All 6 cylinder cars except the 3.0 have 286mm discs and the 3.0 have 300mm discs. I upgraded my 286mm discs from my 2.0 to 300mm discs from a 3.0 Z4. All I needed to change was the carriers to allow the bigger diameter discs to fit, callipers, pads and everything else were the same.

All you will need is carriers, callipers, 286mm discs and new pads from a 2.0, 2.2 or 2.8 or the same but 300mm discs from a 3.0. They are the same across the E36, E46, Z3 and Z4 range from what I remember. A very easy job to do but don't forget to bleed the system correctly afterwards.
