i just finished replacing the boots from the MAF to throttle body on my 2000 2.5 Z3 roadster. i knocked the throttle cable off in the process. after i got it put back on, the eml light and DSC lights came on and of course the vehicle went into limp mode with codes 1580 and 1622. isn't there a clip or something to hold the throttle cable to the pully? what did i do wrong?? help? thanks

Hi Don,

I'm not sure what could be wrong but if it helps.

Error code 1622 relates to MAP Cooling Control Circuit Electrical
Error code 1580 relates to Throttle Valve Mechanically Stuck

It might be worth removing the boot so that you can see the throttle flap, then have someone depress the throttle pedal to the floor to ensure the flap is opening fully? Error code 1580 might mean that not opening fully = stuck?
Just a thought and easy to check.

Tony.

the errors will come from the throttle position sensor, as it says mechanical malfunction, I would remove everything and re-attach it may be that the throttle cable is too tight and the throttle is open when should be closed, for example the cable nipple could be sitting proud and forward instead of in its recess.

think that may indeed be the problem. i should have suspected, the cable appears to be patched/spliced and RTVed in multiple spots just as the air boot was. just got the car last week and have been busy trying to find all the stuff that has been neglected and rednecked. these forums are a national treasure of information better than any repair manual. thanks alot guys, now just have to pay through the nose for a dealer cable i guess/can't find it anywhere else. later

took off the throttle body today and found the throttle plate doesn't seem to return properly, hence the mechanically stuck code. tried to clean, but the electronic portion still returns slow and doesn't want to fully close. bit the bullet and bought a new one. my bmw/tis says after installation i must go into the system and reset the throttle parameters. anyone done this? i have a edias/usb cable and software but have never used it. also found the mechanical throttle cable from the pedal to the throttle body is stretched and patched with electrical tape so have a new one of those coming as well. any help or advise offered would be appreciated once again
