Just updating some gear and started with the Foxwell NT 530, it took a few seconds to load updates.
Now on with the Tom Tom 6200 and it seems to taking a long time. It said there were 3 updates and it's got to 13% and is currently stopped, anyone know if this is normal please? Thank you.:)

Tony.

I have two Tom Tom’s ( not the 6200 ) and when they update they take ages, but I cant remember them actually stopping. They sometimes do restarts during the process, but normally says it.

The older one sometimes puts an error message and I have to disconnect it from the PC , then plug it back in again, and it picks up the download again.

Cheers Malc, I'll just leave it to its own devices and keep checking back.

Thank you Steve. It's finally decided to complete the job. Daft thing is, if it hadn't been for this bloody virus we would've been in Cali by now.

Some of the European updates on mine can take over 24 hours to complete.
At least all the updates are free now though :).

Tony, I've just updated mine, one of the updates is huge and takes about 8 hours to do. Plug it in and walk away. Normal updates are a few minutes.

What do you guys use for itinerary planning these days? I used to use Tyre To Travel, but I think it only works with really old Tom Tom's. I might be wrong with that bit.

Depends on what you are doing i suppose.
Like when I plan a Scottish run you i tend to start with my good old fashion paper AA road map get an idea of the route then as I use my phone for most of my life these days tend to check it on Google maps for time between places then I can put that onto My Drive either on pc or my phone then installed onto my tom tom .
The unfortunate thing is when you are planning a run for a group there's no substitute for actually going out and driving it all ( you always end up tweaking things a bit ) as you have to factor in so many things
like can you stop 10 zeds at that bit you wanted to stop at .
Anywhere else I am going to in UK myself I just let tom tom do its thing .
But thats just my personal usage with so many different electronic versions of maps and route guides etc etc so many ways to do this sort of thing these days .

I usually travel alone or with the wife, so not to worry about groups.
I have retired this year Hooray!! So we will use the Zed much more for trips in Europe and around the uk. In the past I have cobbled together routes from the Best biking roads or Tyre websites and modified them a bit using The Tyre program. I think you can just drop ITN or GPX files into the old Tom Tom's but I'm not sure if its possible anymore and my device is a bit long in the tooth now! A bit like me.

So I wondered if there was a program or App that works in a similar way. I really liked the Tyre program, but It's a bit old school now I think. I hope I'm making sense here Stevo!

Sorry Desiro, yes you are wrong;). I still use TYRE for planning as I think it's a brilliant tool. I used to have an old TomTom, but as TomTom decided to no longer support it I took up their offer of a discount on a new one and upgraded. The process is different when uploading as you cannot upload directly to the TomTom unit (unlike the old TomToms) as you have to upload the itinerary file to MyDrive first. Mydrive then syncs with the TomTom unit. HTH

The time taken for the download is totally dependent on (1) the size of the download file and (2) the speed of your Internet connection. My downloads certainly take longer now I'm on a slower connection.
