Top tips for repairing scratches

I have a couple of annoying scratches, one is fairly deep. Does anybody have any top tips for dealing with these.
From magic pens to nail polish I would like to hear your dos and do nots on the subject
If you have found a magic formula please share, so i can give it a try

The only magic formula is: polishing machine + compound = no more scratches!

It depends on what you'd like to achieve. Touch-up sticks can make an improvement but you'll always see the damaged spot. Magic pens simply fill up the scratches but usually that effect lasts only until you wash your car. If you can see the primer or the bare metal, that means the scratches are too deep, otherwise polishing is (in my opinion) the only satisfying solution.

If the scratch is deep, you can do a reasonable job by thoroughly cleaning it out with thinners and then carefully filling it using a bit of fuse wire with paint on. You will probaably need several coats, let each coat dry thoroughly until the sctatch is filled then allow to dry and finish with compound.
