Trunk Leak

My trunk has a leak when it rains heavily and I cannot identify the source of the leak.

It is primarily in the side wells on both sides at the trunk and sometimes at the top of the trunk right above the welds. There was a pretty large puddle (over a pint of water) on the left well by the top motor.

I checked the rear taillights and they are dry so I don't think it is that. Sometimes the top trunk lid felt cover gets wet but not to the extent of the puddles.

What do you think the source of the leak could be?

Most likely the 3rd brake light gasket is leaking. Also the radio aerial grommet is another common leak.

Tony.

Condensation from the above mentioned leaks can be misleading too... And welcome ...

What do you mean by this?
Water that collects and soaks into the liner from the third light or the antenna grommet, will evaporate and then condense in an entirely different place depending on the dew piont in any place under the lid. As Tony said, check those first..Your lift pump looks like it has been damp for a while, Antenna grommet, is my guess. Never underestimate the powers of capilliary attraction, the mystery of water flowing uphill..;). But if I were you, I would dry it out and then get stuck into it all closed with a garden hose..Your leak will be revealed...

Thank you for the clarification. I think I identified the leak coming from the 3rd brake light so do you know of any fixes? Also, what would be the fix for the antenna leak?

New aerial grommet and a new light gasket.

I too have water in my boot. It’s soaked under boot lid, and at the far end bit of carpet. I’ve recently lost the rear window plastic frame that surrounds the rear screen. I’ve noticed the rear window also getting damp from the inside?

Yep, condensation. Dry it out and then find the leak. I used a big fan to dry out mine, here in the tropics damp = mold , mold = stink...... But nowhere near as bad as loosing a pot of fresh mussels ,assuming you left them on the counter, not searching and then finding then 2 weeks later crushed under the soft top... I did that in my MX5...
