Hello, new to this site. Mark in eastern Washington State. I did a sub speaker upgrade some years ago on my wife's car. It's 4 ohms and I guess the 8 ohm amp didn't like it after a while. I told her don't ever turn the bass balance right of 12'oclock, well... Can anyone direct me to info on how to upgrade to a non-OEM amp with better specs and a wiring harness adapter so it's hopefully plug'n'play. Or a schematic so I can rewire on to the harness a proper plug. For clarity, the sub is between the seats and the amp is on the left side of the trunk. I mentioned I would try to fix as a christmas gift. Like most guys I'm well behind the curve on this one. ;-)

From a pic of the amp harness it looks like a pair of speaker wires for a dual voice coil speaker and not much else other than ground, pwr, activation and a couple others. Clearly a 1-ch amp for just the deck speaker. I read a lot about an external OEM amp to all speakers which isn't applicable. I found one schematic of a 1999 Z3 sportster, no 2000, and it doesn't match either. If I hook up the cable to the amp the battery goes dead, constant drain.

My guess is it's a 2-channel speaker level input amp. Suppose I could flush out what each wire does but a diagram would expedite the project and help spec a new amp.
