After reading Dave's @g8jka post the other week I followed his link to the supplier of his sockets and found a single round fitting which has 2 charge outlets and ordered one.
I was at a loose end this afternoon so I decided to get it fitted, it comes with a cover to protect the outlets and a length of cable complete with an in-line fuse to prevent over-charging.
Tool needed to make mounting hole.
I removed the glove box to a) give access to the fuse box, and b) allow access to the centre panel in the lower part of the dash where I wanted to mount the socket.
Empty the glove box and release the rod which prevents the door from opening all the way, it's located on the right hand end. You have to squeeze together two plastic lugs to release the rod from it's locator.
Next there two "tabs" which you have to push back to allow the lid to fall all the way open, this exposes to 2 bottom screws that hold the glove box assembly into the dash aperture (2 at each side and 2 at the bottom, 6 in total).
Now you have full access to the fuse box.
The panel I want to fit the outlet in is in the lower part of the dash ahead of the centre console, it simply clicks into place with plastic lugs, I had previously mounted my reversing sensor display on here.
I drilled a hole at the left hand end of the panel and fitted the socket with the cover "upside down" ei so the it hangs down when you have a USB item plugged in.
Refit the glove box and the job's done.
Nice neat addition.. I have connected into a permanent + supply so that I can charge items when the car is locked.
Tony.
ps. Thanks for the info Dave.
