Not sure it is HT, more like a automatic transmission advisory light.

I thought it was trans related . It's done it intermittently ever since I've had the car and at the end of a run something, I guess, must re-set itself because when you start up again it doesn't come on. I can almost guarantee making it come on by turning very sharp left through the workshop door at work to access one of the ramps. I wondered if it could be Diff related rather than gearbox? Owners manual says unsurprisingly " take car to dealer". It doesn't seem to cause any other fault and this is the first time for a long time so I'm not unduly worried more curious as to what it is.

I think it means the hairdryer is due a P.A.T.
Tony - as your car is an auto a couple of thoughts come to mind.
Our 2.2i was extremely sensitive to fluid levels (especially sump oil) and would flash warning lights way before the levels got anywhere near minimum.
Given you comment about "sharp left entering the workshop" I'm wondering whether it could be low on power steering or automatic transmission fluid?
I would certainly check the simple things one before heading towards the stealers
Only do one at a time though otherwise you'll not know which (if any) solved it!

By the fact that the light is yellow/orange this is an advisory item which basically means please sort the issue at your earliest convenience unlike a red warning lamp which means stop the car and get the issue sorted before proceeding.Tony - as your car is an auto a couple of thoughts come to mind.

I would certainly be checking the automatic transmission fluid level first, AFAIAA there is no sensor on the power steering fluid circuit.
Hi - just had a look through some screen prints I took when looking through my INPA transmission diagnostic screens. There is actually an `error on cornering' indication but as yet I cannot find anything in the error codes. I would have thought this was an ASC+T error but it does appear in the automatic transmission module.

Thanks for the input everyone, I changed the gearbox oil and filter last year even though it is supposed to be filled for life. Also I had the same thoughts re the amber warning light so that's why I'm not unduly concerned. Like I said it's very erratic when it occurs. I did wonder if perhaps it might be a steering angle sensor problem as we have come across this at work too this can occur if the steering column has been disconnected and has been allowed to turn before re attachment to the rack meaning the "clock spring" for the airbag isn't located centrally.
t-tony- my book says right at the beginning" the electronic transmission control module(TCM) monitors transmission operation for faults and alerts the driver by illuminating the transmission fault indicator on the instrument panel.Onboard diagnostic codes stored in the TCM must be downloaded and interpreted by trained technicians using special BMW diagnostic equipment" other than that there doesn't appear to be any further info.
