As I have comes across this problem, I thought I would share just in case others are unfortunate.

Few weeks back the passenger airbag warning light showed a fault on the dash. I tried to research the problem but nothing was obvious. Maybe an isolator switch in the cabin but nothing. Does the system require resetting again was unsure. As nothing was coming to light I decided to take to my local garage where the car has been going for the last 4 yrs. after a day with them they came back with answer of the connector had water in and therefore caused a short ( £280 + vat . Before they where going to install they needed to find the root to the leak. The garage rang back and explained there was an inch of water in the cab the carpet was soaking this would have caused the part to fail.
They told me the actual leak came in from the windscreen, the scuttle board was defective therefore let water in underneath the windscreen. New scuttleboard ( £160 + vat ).
Once the leak and the carpet has been reinstalled then the connector will be fitted. The airbag connector has to be reset by BMW.

I hope this helps others if they should come across this.

Have you had any condensation issues in the cabin?

Tony.

That's usually the tell tale sign of wet carpet/underlay. First time I've heard of it in a Z4 though.

Meaning, if someone else comes across this problem of both water in the car and the airbag warning light lit. Hopefully the information I share maybe helpful.

Come on Grandad keep up =)) The reason of the fail was caused by the Moisture which was caused by the Scuttle board leaking. So if any members with Z4s get this problem this could be the place to look if nothing obvious is found

I was reading this with interest ( even though I only have z3 ) .
I have a question that springs to mind ( only because of some of the dealings up here with bmw dealers.)

Is your local BMW dealership happy to reset the connector plug?

Reason asking is here the dealerships are highly reluctant to do that kind of work when they have not done the initial job.

Can’t the airbag light simply be reset with a code reader once the work has been done?

The local garage I use, have worked on my car for 4 yrs and they specialise in German makes. They have to take it to the BMW dealer for the airbag system to be reset. The part is a oem from BMW

Not sure about the code reader. Had the fault just been a reset then maybe I could have found that out but due to other work being carried out it's beyond that.

Well please explain PKRS reaction to my post then Bill because I sure don't get why he reacted to my post like that. I never suggested he should not post up about it, simply that it's the first time I've heard of that issue in a Z4.

Ok. Please re read my post #4 and tell.me why you said what you said in post #. I never said you should not mention that on the forum, simply that I had never heard of it happening on a Z4 before now.

Tony's post was crystal clear stating what the usual tell-tale signs are and that it's unusual to hear of a Z4 with this condition, which it is. Clear enough?
