If you mean the large hex nut on that stud? It is the connection point for jump starting the car. Never go direct to the battery with jump leads. The positive connector is covered by a plastic shield,

It should also be noted here that the positive point cover is usually missing, however a red cap off a camping butane can fits perfectly...

Just aside from the main question. In the first picture posted by Rodders67 the top of the suspension leg is off set towards the rear of the tower. In the second picture posted by ExMX5owner it is central in the tower as mine are. Why would this be?
They look like they are in the same place to me, maybe camera angle ??. I was standing at the side of my car...
