Hi everyone, My Z3 needs shoes and cables. Intending to do the job myself I bought the parts, nothing special, Delphi shoes, QH cables + the kits. With an MOT approaching I decided to give the guys at BMW Motor Works, Stockport a ring and ask for a price.....I decided to do it myself! Gareth volunteered that the shoes should only ever be replaced with Jurid or BMW originals (made by Jurid). His reason was that all other brands glaze over very quickly and give very poor results. So I'm wondering what member's experience of the different brands has been. Incidentally Jurid have stopped producing them. I'm going to ask the local stealer for a price. I've done a few other models with the same set up without trouble but I do trust their experience and he wasn't trying to sell me anything.

BMW shoes are undoubtedly the best. They do a value line kit for under £60 like this:

Part number 34416761289, same as the E36 3 Series.

Thanks @Andyboy, that's a little irritating! I'm sure that was the part number that I quoted to my local BMW agent Haliwell Jones and got the response, NLA. I'm doing the job in the spring and meanwhile the handbrake has improved a lot for now. Yes, being "proper" BMW shoes it's the only way to go and at a good price too. Thanks again, Chris

Stevenage (stated in an email) they just list stuff in the current bmw parts catalog but don’t check if it’s NLA. Had 3 orders cancelled by them so far for stuff no longer for sale.

Maybe I'm being obtuse here, but why would handbrake shoes glaze? Surely if you're putting the handbrake on you'll be doing it with the car at rest and they can't glaze if nothing's moving. And, yes, I have seen what happens when some tw@ tries doing handbrake turns with the average BMW, there's nothing left of the shoes after a little while.

Either way: BMW shoes just work. Aftermarket ones don't work as well.

Yeah, I do see your point Nefyn cat but surely there is always some very light contact between drum and shoe which could polish the lining. The indie that I spoke to said that they'd had bad experiences with albeit other top brands. He was only relating his past experiences. If some Jurid shoes don't turn up somewhere over the winter I think I'll be fitting ATE. Thanks everyone for your input 👍
