Wheel Arch Liners?

Hi folks, excuse me if this has been covered before. I have a decision that I’m not sure how it could affect ßedŷ my car. I have purchased new alloys and tyres. They’re 19s 8.5 at the front & with wider 9.5 at the back. Can’t recall exactly all round but one of the tyre specs are 225 35R 19 88Y (not sure if they’re front or rear). I’m not at home so can’t see the other tyre specs.

My query is, I’m concerned they may rub on the wheel arch Liners, so thinking of removing them all? Also I’ve been on the verge of getting new Coilovers & lowering it a touch. So thinking it may look nice when looking in that area without the liners present seeing the inner workings as I’m getting new discs & Calipers so it just may look cool with it all showing?

Knowing this would be a vulnerable spot, I would regularly look after the after the wheel arch area!

Would removing the liners expose the Coilovers & look good?

Would removing the liners just cause real problems down the line?

Could it fail MOT?

I’m looking to get another vehicle for carrying my equipment so if I qmay think about only driving my Z3 on dry days to stop the build up of road muck, I’m in Central London so no country roads dealing with mud & stones!

Anwways, that's my query. I really appreciate your advice my friends. Apologies if this has been covered I looked but couldn’t see an post 2ith what I was querying.

Many Thanks!

A couple of guys have 19's and no reports of rubbing. Mine is on 18's and has been lowered by 30mm with no rubbing, plenty of room.

I replaced front and rear wings for someone as the originals were rotten, When removing the originals it was found that all the liners had been removed. Everything was thickly covered in mud, when it was removed all the rot was revealed, Do not remove the liners, you will take years off the cars life, far better to fit correctly sized wheels. Too big and the steering can be awful and it will put a lot more strain on the steering.

I have run 19's on mine for a few years, just with slight rubbing on the top lip of the liner, in the end I removed the lip with a stanley knife and just kept the underside of the bonnet clean. lowered 30mm on Eibachs.
They are 8.5 front running 235/35 x19 and 9.5 rears, on 265/30 x 19 on rear. ET 35

I had no issues with suspension, steering or tramlining. the only reason I changed was because the missus pinched them for her Z4. now they need tyres I have been allowed them back

What are the offsets of the front and back wheels?
Hi everyone, thanks so much for responding! I’m so sorry for the delay. I had a situation with my Dad in hospital come up past few days got me spun out man! But everything’s ok, & I’m deeply grateful for the responses Scooblitz thanks man, means an awful lot

so yeh, Scooblitz, thanks for your query. But unfortunately I can’t recall but I’ll call wheelbase 2moz Thurs 16th 07 & let you know. I did though speak to Wheelbase at length & was reassured that my Axe 18s with my tyres would fit my Z3 (gave them my VIN) so felt secure it’d be fine! But I know things can happen!

But I’ll let you know asap my friend. Cheers!

Hi andyglym my friend, thanks so much also, for getting back to me so quickly & that info, it’s helpful & reassuring! I’m sure these would fit but I also was thing removing them & somewhat being able to see the Coilovers may look cool. But yeh I don’t wanna damage my Z3 over time, although I would up my level of care if I did remove them. But another option would be to just get new liners so it looks nicer in there with my new parts!

So thanks again my friend & yeh apologies for the delay as I wrote above. Thanks mate!

Hi jaguartvr, thanks my friend for helping me in my tiny dilemma! And yeh, I am very worried about destroying the inner workings of my car! Although I‘m a bit of an obsessive cleaner, & love jet washing my Z3 & sometimes want to steam my engine or underneath, but maybe even that wouldn’t be enough to keep my Coilovers & new brake discs & calipers looking clean or to keep that new look as long as poss!

I guess I gotta think this through but take on your advise & all you guys experience! So thanks mate, much appreciated. All the best my friend!

Hi Gookah my friend, man thank you for that & I really appreciate what everyone’s said, but yeh that’s just what I needed to hear man! It’s reall reassuring & they look the part man!!!! I was concerned about 8.5 at the front & 9.5 in the rear but sound like you hit a bullseye with them!

I now wish I had made a different choice, but mine are still nice & think about getting them 2 tone powder coated. I saw some spikes from True Spikes & fell in love with one particular set of their Neon Yellow & Neon Blue short spikes & thought to get the wheels PC in the same colours & then get a wrap with graphics in the same colour scheme! But that’s me dreaming a touch, although I got a 2nd finance option from a company & they have 3 partners who are car wrapping Co’s, so it’s kinda tempting!

Also I’m looking at, BC Racing (BR) model Coilovers (again on finance). I have a terribly wobbly steering wheel, & especially at higher speeds, & on motorways if I hit a bump or a patch of water it’s a struggle to control. So hoping doing the Alloys, Coils, Disc & Calipers would assure me a better driving experience? Fingers crossed :)

But mate thanks man, it’s great to know your setup worked! And everyone’s advise is really helpful & gives me food for thought to make the best choice possible.

Anyways thanks a ton, for yours & everones time & guidance! And again, sorry for such a late response just a bit going on. But cheers people! Thanks so much!!!
