Shell V Power . when our local garage stopped selling it , my local option was Tesco Momentum ,but not running a welI and lost all the noise from exhaust. Back on V Power engine running a lot nicer and exhuast noise back to previous.

I've tried the higher octane fuels but I haven't noticed any significant difference other than the cost. I have logged my mileages, fuel spend etc for the last 10yrs or so in all of my cars. My mpg hasn't gone up or down significantly in accordance with the type of motoring I have done. For example, when I've done a long trip such as when we go onto the continent I expect the fuel consumption to rise and if I'm hareing around Wales with Hugh, then I expect the total opposite.
If my car had a modern high performance engine then may be I'd see better numbers. It doesn't and I don't so it's not something I'm bothered about.
The same debate can be had about supermarket fuels.

In Australia there's often a choice between 91, 95 and 98. I use 98...for the distances I usually cover the extra cost doesn't add up to much.

I find that the only thing that radically affects my gas mileage and performance is whether or not my wife is sitting in the car next to me.....Frankie

BP Ultimate always. I have used Shell Vmax previously but stopped when a friend of mine, who prepares rally cars for some very serious competitors, told me that BP is better for injected cars and Shell for carb cars. I have absolutely no expert knowledge of this, but I know he knows what he is talking about. Plus the Vmax is actually outside the recommended RON range for the car and the BP is bang on the RON high end.

Shell V power or BP Ultimate, for the better cleaning properties. And Z3lda goes very well on them!

BP Ultimate is the best I can get out in the back and beyond. Don't care about the price as I don't use my Zed as a daily.

Shell Vpower - the car has always had it in so far. My last I tried both, and could tell the diff between them - logged mpg on both and got slightly more on the good stuff. Not enough to offset the cost though.

Fuel is the cheapest thing to do to your car once its bought, poor quality fuel can do damage.

Never noticed any difference whatever I put in. Still, I've only had it six and a half years. Fuel today (and oil) is a whole lot better than it used to be, it's been a long time since I felt the need to de-coke an engine, not sure if there are still de-coke gasket sets available.

I had a mate that worked for a large petrol company and his attitude to high octane is that its a rip off and a placebo effect, the octane boosters are added at fuel station when the tanks are filled, they soon start to derade and after a few days are virtually none exhistant, , couple that with how long it sits in your tank and what do you have, now this was only his opinion but he knew what he was talking about, I have tried it in various cars and have never noticed any improvement whatsoever.

I can't speak for my Z3, but we used to have a Honda CRV Automatic. It was very thirsty. The difference that high octane petrol made was very significant indeed. It didnt noticably run better, but the MPG was about 25% better.

I use it for the cleaning additives, or rather I did on my performance modern classic but on my Z3 and Mercedes CLA I mostly use Costco regular fuel because it has the additives.
Even on the performance cars (18 years old and older) I did not notice any difference in performance. Never bother with the MPG because it's so crap anyway.
I'm sure some new performance engines may make use of it.

Interesting one this, the M really dosent like the cheap stuff, pinks like a bugger, but runs as sweet as can be on the high octane, and I swear it goes better too especially at high rpms, I can definitly feel a difference.

Cant say I notice any difference so far in the e89 after a few fill ups so she gets the cheapest I can find

Not sure I agree with your mate, read quite a bit on fuels over the years and never heard that one before other than about detergents. Higher octane is only really there to stop knock (pinking) especially on performace engines, it dosent really aid performance in its self, just makes the engine run better, so gives performace in that way.
