Greetings! My 2000 2.8 z has a straight through exhaust system with a resonator tip.
It’s pretty easy to manage the loudness level with your right foot, but I’m getting complaints from the “management “, if you get my drift. Do you think that adding a muffler such as in the picture attached would be a problem? I don’t want it too quiet!!

When I have had this 'problem' with the wife previously, I just told her the exhaust was standard and it can't be changed.
I had an MPPSK (M power performance and sound kit) fitted to my 440i at the dealer. When it came back I told her there was a problem with the existing exhaust so they changed it for free and it sounds normal now! She doesn't see my CC bills!

Just tell her the exhaust is faulty (thereby getting brownie points for agreeing with her) but also that the repair is very very expenaive and she would agree it's best just to live with it.

Cheaper option would be to remove the passenger seat. :whistle:
