Z3 1999 2.0 where does this vacuum pipe go?

Hi, new user. I'm wondering where the vacuum pipe from the pressure regulator on the injectors terminates. I can see one end of the pipe but it disappears under the intake manifold and I have no idea where it is connected to. I'm chasing starting issues and have found that this pipe seems intact but with the motor running there is no vacuum present and I can suck or blow on the pipe but feel no resistance either way. It may be split somewhere or even disconnected but where, should there be a vacuum on it at tick over? Spraying carb cleaner around has no effect. The pipe has a heat protecting sleeve so I can't tell visually if the pipe that I can see is in fact okay. Anyone know where this pipe goes? should it have vacuum? It's number 11 in the picture. One end goes on the regulator but where does the other end go? By the way I'm near Taunton in Somerset and I've had the car for 7 months now, gradually sorting the problems, not quite as good condition as I'd hoped so it's a bit of a money pit at the moment.

Brian, thanks for the info, I had suspected that that's where it went but now I also know that I shouldn't have vacuum on that pipe at tickover so I'm reassured by that. I'm not sure about the CCV, car has done 105K and has not been maintained well in recent years from what I'm finding. I had the usual air bag light fix to sort out and many other bodges so I'm not sure I'm chasing just genuine faults.

My main issue that's got me checking everything is poor start ups and then very average performance. When I turn the ignition on I get a rapid electrical tick-tick-tick from what I believe to be the ICV, it doesn't make the noise when ticking over and I can unplug the ICV and get no change in running, is that correct? When the engne starts it seems okay but very average. On odd ocassions it starts with all guns firing, by that I mean it sounds and responds very differently, the airpump even runs which it doesn't mst of the time. The car drives much better and MPG is better. This seems to me an electrical fault, could even be the EMU but until I've eliminated other sensors, relays etc I'm reluctant to get another EMU.

There is a BMW specific code reader which does a lot more than spit out code numbers and if this is plugged in may shed some light on your problems.
Might be some one here local who can help.

When operating correctly the smog pump only runs for so long after start up. I'm not sure how long to be honest because the bearings in mine were very noisy so I disconnected the power supply. Initially after fitting my DRL's I used this power to feed the lights and found that they went off after a minute or so. The pump was requirement in the US not here and my car passes the emission test with flying colour every year. As Brian said, I recently junked the whole unit from the car, blanked off the vac pipe and made a plate to blank the port on the cylinder head.

Thanks for that guys, my air pump is working correctly, my problem is that when starting from cold it doesn't always run - no volts get to the pump but why? something about the way the car starts means that some systems/units/items don't run, i'm not even sure that the vanos solenoids activate, you can unplug them and it makes no difference, it's a puzzle. If the car didn't start that might be an easier problem to cure but starting and not running correctly is curios. BTW no fault codes are thrown up, those that were have been dealt with but none of that has changed this starting issue.
