OK peeps, I like my bling so I've got one and will put it on when home next. The Q is, how on earth do you fit it please? Took a quick look but it looks like you need 2 people and it has small tags on it, not sure where these fit (also has a strip of double sided tape to help hold in place)? Has anybody retro-fitted one please and if so how did you get on, or not?

Thanks

Andy.

How to fit some chrome crap to your Z....:rolleyes:

Re: Installed New Chrome Windshield Surround
Basically, this windshield surround goes right over the frame, and is attached by double-sided adhesive tape. It is further secured by various tabs that you need to squeeze in between the frame and windshield.

The biggest challenge is to get the chrome surround to properly fit (minor shaping and bending is required--but be careful not to bend too much or you'll form a crease in it), and to get the tabs in place (lots of pushing and squeezing is required), while making sure your double-sided tape doesn't adhere to where it is not supposed to. The tape is very strong, and if you don't lay it down right you'll have a lot of trouble lifting it up and reattaching it without bending and forming a crease in the chrome surround. Another obstacle is to get these three pieces underneath the rubber windshield seal.

I presume you don't have the black plastic windshield surround on your car, but rather the painted surround as found in later Z3 models. I don't know if the chrome surround can go over this black plastic windshield surround, or if you have to remove it first.

Make sure you clean the area with alcohol before attaching the tape to get a good strong bond.

Good luck!!!

I'm having mine fitted along with a few other bits and bobs on Thursday. I couldn't find any other account of retro-fitting these other than the one HT has posted up.

Its one of those jobs that you only get one shot at and they are not cheap so that's why I decided to leave it to the Pros...these dudes work on Aston & Ferrari so hopefully they can get it right.

When I get the chance I will start up a progress thread showing the upgrades and mods done since owning the Z. In the meantime I'll let you know Andy.

Thanks, after reading that and realising you need more than one pair of hands I'll think I'll find somebody to do it.

I vaguely remember reading something, somewhere, some time ago, that if you want to retrofit it you’re better off chopping off the tabs.

Reliable advice, I know :whistle:

@Andy McDonnell
Thanks. If I'm honest I'm not to keen on pushing the tabs in down the side of the screen/seal.
