Hi Lee
these knuckles still available ?
Also am I right to assume replacing knuckles also means new bearings are required ?

Hi Gordon. Yeah I have one set still. You don’t have to replace the bearings if they’re ok.

Hi Lee
apologies got really busy at work, then Xmas....
I have thought of replacing my Knuckles as I replaced steering control arms, pads, discs, bushes and front dampers etc last year.
I have a 'Bentley' manual and it doesn't show any detail about the knuckles/bearings but it does advise the bearings should be renewed, never refitted.
So can you advise me on how difficult a job it is with basic my tools ? ie no pullers or anything.
Also i would want new splashguards which I'm sure I can find on the web
I don't suppose you are going to Kemble on Saturday are you ?

Hi Gordon. Actually quite a simple task on the Z3, no puller needed.

two 7mm bolts for the callipers.
two 16mm hex heads for the carrier.
6mm Allen head for the disc.

remove bearing cap and here you’ll need either a very big bar or impact gun. It’s a 46mm nut for the bearing. Once off wiggle the bearing and pull it off, normally the rear brace stays behind get two screw drivers and lever off. These bears are slide on slide off fitment, nut does the clamping force.
3x 10mm hex heads for the dust shield.
17mm for the track rod end and a fork to release the taper.
19mm for the wishbone taper again break with the fork.

That’s your lot :)

No car shows for me this weekend I’m working.

Thanks Lee

Strange how people who know what they're doing make things sound so EASY
I reckon the only thing I don't have is a 46mm doo dah

The bearings can be reused. 9 times out of 10 the inner race will be left behind but you just drift them off with a big ugly screwdriver and press them back into the hub.

You will need two new wheel bearing dust cover rings to press onto the knuckles before the hubs go back on, BMW part number 31206777788.

You'll also need new ABS sensors each side as the old ones will not come out intact. Fit them with some grease so they don't rust in again.

Forgot about the ABS sensor. You know full well they won’t move without a fight!

Hi mate, at a guess another £10 due to the weight.

Or I'm down the other end of the M4 by Reading if you're ever passing.
