As part of @BMBabe's Project Panther we have an interesting issue with the heated seats - primarily the drivers.

It gets almost hot enough to burn skin, so we are figuring something isn't exactly right. It has the same style sport seats as I have in mine, and those don't get anywhere near that hot - just nice and comfy.

Not really sure where to start looking on this. I'm assuming there must be an obvious place to start looking on this issue.

On which setting does it get too hot '1' or '2'?
Depending in what you wearing 2 can feel very hot but it switches down to 1 after a set period of time....but being a Z owner and occasional forum browser you probably know that already...!!

Just a thought: Have the seats been recovered- perhaps the the foam lining on the underside of the leather is not the there or different leather used (not sure if it would make much difference though).

A couple of things you could try:-
  • To rule out a switch issue swap the switches over, if the drivers seat still gets too hot then you know it's a seat issue, if the passenger seat suddenly gets too hot it is a switch issue.
  • If it turns out to be a seat issue, measure the resistance of the heater elements and compare side to side.
Did I mention that you may have an issue ;)

If he can't work it out he may need some tissues?:) TB H mine does get fairly warm on the hotter setting but once the second setting comes in it's ok. My Touareg has 5 positions and very soft leather seats and even on a cold day no. 5 is soon too hot.

Tony.

Seriously, make sure the thermostats are working properly!

On the drive home after collecting @BMBabe's car i put both heated seats on. @pgunter was passenger and to his amusement he saw me start jumping around after a few minutes because it was burning my "Ass"

Test one - (thanks to @Brian H) I will swap both switchs

Test two - check the eliments resistance (Fluke Meter in my garage)

Test three - Get @GazHyde to sit on the seat for each test
