Z3 service lights

Hi guys - can I please ask - my oil service light has gone from orange to red. My Z3 is booked in for an oil filter replacement on Tuesday, but I have already done 400miles since the light first came on, and I am unsure whether it is ok to continue driving it in the lead up to Tuesday. Is there a mileage limit from when the oil service light comes on until you have to get it sorted? Thanks in advance for any help! A

Welcome @ali,

Service lights are there as an indication only, and don't really have any mileage associated with them. Ideally you would get your car serviced before the red light comes on as best practice, and also that oil doesn't last forever (hence the need to change it!).

I've personally driven around with the red service light on for longer than I should before. Make sure that you are topped up on oil and the other fluids but you should be fine.

Ali firstly :welcome:. Secondly do not disagree with Gary's comments but note oil service on a Z3 is oil change and filter -not just filter.

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks so much for your swift reply guys!

I felt a little uneasy driving around with the red light, but I wanted to get back to Norfolk from Wales! I have replaced the oil, and my water level is right. As I want the traction to be checked at the same time as the oil service, I'm having to wait until Tuesday for it all. My mileage between now and then will be minimal, probably 30 miles a day. I may call the garage tomorrow to see if they can fit her in for an oil service sooner and do the traction etc next week... :)

Hi Ali and welcome from Lincoln. Don't be scared by the red light coming on. As Gaz said really you ought to have had the work done before it came on, but it doesn't mean the car will stop at a certain miles over the service or anything like that. Just have it done asap and next time be more aware of the service lights.
Cheers, Tony.:)
