Putting this here for the z shed crews advise/opinion. My lad’s Z4 3.0 started getting noisy on a trip home, as we’re 50 miles apart and he didn’t want to risk driving further than he had to he took it to a local garage.
Took a week to look at it then charged him 3 hours labour @£270 and £10 parts. My lad mentioned the manifold so I assumed it was blowing from the head to manifold hence the three hour labour charge.
Today when we had the car jacked up looking for a rattle, I looked at the exhaust and all they have done is cut off two of the four down pipe to centre pipe bolts, replaced with non original bolts, a new gasket and some exhaust gum! The two bolts on the adjacent pipe are so far gone they look like they could go the same way at any moment.
So not having done the job, would it seriously take 3 hours to cut the rusty bolts out and replace them? And surely while you were under there and having the advantage of easier access on a ramp you would have replaced all 4 bolts?
Maybe me being a bit anal / expecting too much , any thoughts?
