Been a bit quiet on the Z Front of late had a couple of jobs on a 318 Touring and a VW Polo, oil filter housing gasket on the 318 and new front discs on the polo. Had a z3 2.8 in today for a health check, full scan revealed a few codes, made a note then cleared and rescanned. two codes returned ABS Motor fault but no warning light on, gave it a clout in case the brushes on the motor were sticking but no change. Its a 199 car and my launch scanner couldn't do an activation test, may have to try INPA to see if that can do a test. The other code was a short in the Alarm Tilt sensor, investigated that and it was sitting in water!!. Aerial was previously replaced and a new grommet fitted, no water staining runs on the bodywork so presuming old grommet may have been the cause of water ingress. Pulled the unit and found the internal pcb was coated in green gunge, cleaned it with electrical cleaning spray but found one of the connection pins was corroded and fell apart so unit is scrap. Covered the loom plug after cleaning it using a small plastic bag and a tie wrap. Owner will be looking for a good replacement from our resident Breakers if one can be had. Underside will need some attention to the front underside of the sills and a general clean up and paint of all the underpinnings which have surface rust. Power steering loop and feed pipes to the rack need treating and painting, Bodywork up top is excellent, car looks really good. Just a bit of love over the winter will have it in tip top condition.Gordon 2.8 Z3.jpg
